"Note on this Hudson Line"

These Hudsons in the War For Southern Independences James was a police officer for the city of Jonesboro, GA after the civil war. He was in the same regiment as his brother, William W Hudson who was injured in battle. In John Lynch's "The Marshbourne-Dorman Letters" , there is a picture of a reunion. Included in this picture are both men. Elisha Hudson of Henry,/Macon/Fayette County now of this city married Susannah Gilbert Marshbourne after her husband Sam Marshbourne was killed in the civil war gave this recording of of an event in the war. "We left many dead and wounded near the church. Among the wounded thus left was William Hudson, brother of Policeman James. Elisha Hudson; When we got back to line of battle, Capt. William Schley Davis, of Columbus, Ga., at whose mother's hospitable home in Columbus, I was nursed when wounded, rode rapidly up to me and told me that General Semmes ordered me to go back towards Chancellorsville and bring up every straggler to be found. As Davis turned to ride away, a piece of shell tore away one side of his face, a most frightful wound. I had to go about a half a mile across an open field, making a gradual ascent. Going across this field and in the same direction were a number of wounded and others who had been sent on errands of kind. As soon as we ascended far enough to be seen above the growth between our lines, the Yankees decided to sweep that field with grape canister bullets and shell. When they started there was lively scampering. I heard afterwards that several of the wounded were killed, and that many of them were forced to take a double dose of wounds." End LANE FAMILY CEMETERY, Paulding County, GA Information: This is a very old cemetery. It was established by some of the original founders of Paulding County. The Cemetery is about 500 yards down that road. Wesley Hudson's association with the founding of Atlanta, GA. Atlanta was founded in the late 1830's as a railhead, the terminal point of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Originally, it was named Terminus. In 1838, Wesley Hudson was one of 8 people who sold the original right-of-way to the railroad to connect the newly sited Terminus with its crossing on the Chattahoochee River. Wesley owned other property in the area that was in the thick of the fighting during Sherman's capture of Atlanta in 1864. Shortly after the war, Wesley Hudson and family moved to Pumpkinvine in Paulding Co., GA (around 1866). Around 1877, he returned to Fulton County, to Atlanta. The home that he lived in was on the site now occupied by the Georgia World Congress Center. And shortly before Elizabeth died, he returned to Paulding County, though he was remarried in Fulton Co in 1884.Wesley Hudson married Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann Landers, b.1816 in SC, d.1870 in Paulding Co., GA July 1831.
